Galata Tower (Turkish: Galata Kulesi)
We are meeting at Galata Tower, where Herzarfen Ahmet Çelebi flew
from Europe to Anatolian side.
We have these events at various historical places of İstanbul and we discover different places each time. We are expecting everyone that wants to be informed about Geocaching, chat or share their experiences with us.
This time, event will be held at Galata Tower, which is one of the most important symbols of Galata, or even Istanbul.
Galata Tower was constructed in the year 528, and it has an excellent view of Bosphorus of Istanbul, Haliç and Istanbul. In 2013, UNESCO added Galata Tower to the list of Temporary World Heritages. In the first half of 17th century, Hezarfen Ahmet Çelebi flew using artificial wings starting from this tower over the Bosphorus to Üsküdar-Doğancılar on the Anatolian side. This flight has been a great interest to the world, and engravings that shows this flight has been made in England.
